This year, we are offering a new route in Peru which will allow you to discover the Total Lunar Eclipse over Lake Titicaca and the dramatic Andean countryside between Arequipa, the Cañon de Colca, and Puno, in addition to the wonders of the Inca empire.

Our adventure will begin in the lovely “white city” of Arequipa which is surrounded by volcanic peaks. We will learn about the unique history of this charming city, its strong Spanish heritage, and role on an important trade route from the sea. We will travel across lands where vicuñas roam free and Andean condors soar en route to Chivay. The dry, rugged beauty of the Andean countryside includes what may be the deepest canyon in the world.

At Lake Titicaca we will venture onto the highest navigable lake in the world to explore the Floating Islands. We will learn about the reed boats and see the homes of the Uros people on the Floating Islands. That evening we will see the Total Lunar Eclipse—with a fantastic reflection in the lake!

We will then fly to Cusco, to explore the heart of the Inca Empire, plus see Pisac on market day, the archaeological sites of Pisac and Ollantaitambo, and Machu Picchu. Leading the expedition will be our colleague and Peru expert, Dr. Douglas Sharon.
