CHILE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE
June 26-July 6, 2019 with Optional Easter Island Pre-Trip, June 21-26, 2019
Dear Travelers:
We invite you to join our
Chile Total Solar Eclipse
Adventure, June 26-July 6, 2019, including
an optional pre-trip to
explore the wonders of
Easter Island, June 21-26, 2019.
Join us and enjoy the
Southern Hemisphere as
we explore the La Serena
area, where the Total Solar
Eclipse path will cross on
July 2, 2019.
Our adventure will start
in the historic capital city,
Santiago, Chile's largest
city and one of the most
beautiful cities in South
America. Here we will visit
the outstanding Pre-
Columbian Museum, and
have an introduction to this
bustling city.
We will fly to La Serena and the splendid Hacienda
Santa Cristina, near Ovalle where we will stay during
our time in the Norte Chico of Chile. The Hacienda is
charming, with wonderful grounds, horseback riding,
excellent meals, and more! It is well situated to explore
the ancient heritage of northern Chile, its towns and
villages, observatories, a national park, and the
renowned Elqui Valley.
During our stay, we will explore the archeological site
in the Valle del Encanto (Enchanted Valley) where
petroglyphs and pictographs of dancing stick men can
be seen. These figures span over 2,000 years of cultural history.
We'll also explore the unique cloud forest and
coastal beauty of Parque
Nacional Fray Jorge, a
moist cloudforest created
by ocean fog, all in the
midst of the starkly
beautiful desert landscapes.
A highlight of the trip will
be sharing our Eclipse
lecture with school children
and townspeople in Ovalle,
and watching the Eclipse
with children and families
in a remote village in the
path of the Total Solar
Eclipse.
We will also go inland to
explore the Elqui Valley,
visit a local pisco winery,
enjoy a Chilean barbecue
dinner, and have a special
visit to Cerro Tololo and
another observatory.
You will travel with Betchart South America expert,
Dr. Tom Love, and astronomer Dr Tyler Nordgren,
popular leader of Aurora and Eclipse trips for Betchart
and the Planetary Society.
We hope you will join us for this unique adventure and
see the 2019 Total Solar Eclipse!
